    Due to the pressures of competition and the need to meet organizational performances, a definite relationship between organizational goals and training has emerged. You will cover: considering staff training, assessing and confirming the need for training, preparing the training, delivering a training session and evaluating a training session.

    Assess workplace competencies

    An essential aspect of developing team members is the ability to assess the individual’s skills and knowledge. You will learn about: The assessment process, assessment evidence, the assessment plan, implementing the assessment activity, the assessment decision, assessment records and reviewing assessment.

    2Leading and Managing People

    Lead and manage people

    This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage people. It involves developing and communicating team objectives developing and improving teams delegating responsibility consultation and actively supporting team members to achieve goals and store plans/targets.

    3Managing Human Resources

    Provide a safe working environment

    This unit covers developing and implementing policies and procedures relating to occupational health and safety issues. It involves consulting with staff assessing and controlling risks establishing and maintaining record systems and evaluating policies and procedures.

    Administer human resources policy

    This unit teaches you how to plan and manage human resources. It involves implementing staffing levels monitoring staff performance identifying and minimising potential industrial relations problems and developing and implementing training plans.

    Recruit and select personnel

    This unit will cover: human resource planning, identifying HR needs, staff selection and EEO, recruitment policy, conducting an interview. Recruitment is a critical component of any retail manager’s task in making a retail outlet profitable.

    4Financial Resources

    Manage financial resources

    This unit involves the skills required to develop and implement financial control systems. It involves controlling cost and budget maintaining store accounting systems and developing and negotiating budget allocations.

    5Store Operations

    Control store security/loss

    Providing a suitable level of security is essential to minimise the potential risk of damage, loss or injury to the team, the store, its equipment or stock. This risk is not limited to traditional ‘shoplifting or armed robbery’. There are many potential risk areas to consider when implementing an effective loss prevention strategy.

    Control inventory

    Efficiently controlling the inventory of a retail store is critical to the long term profitability and survival of the store. Retailers make a sizeable investment in the inventory they keep every day. If this investment is not protected, the retailer may face financial losses that cannot be overcome.


    Manage merchandise and store operations

    This unit involves managing store merchandising, planning and managing store advertising and promotions, managing store pricing policies and managing housekeeping.

    Manage sales and service delivery

    This unit involves market research developing new markets and marketing products and services within the culture of the overall store policy.

    Our retail management course leads to the awarding of a Diploma. This qualification recognizes the graduate’s capacity for initiative and judgement across a broad range of technical and management functions. Diploma holders typically have personal responsibility and autonomy (semi-independence) in performing technical operations or organizing others in the workplace.

  • Prerequisites

    There are NO previous work or education requirements for entry into our retail management course.

    Students typically complete their studies within 24 weeks.

How Does Online Studying Work?

As an ICI student, you’ll be able to train at home in your spare time, learning in the easiest possible way. There are no classes or lectures to attend, and no need to leave your job or change your schedule.

1The Enrollment Process

Select the course that interests you. The International Career Institute website offers course overviews, course outlines, course fees, student testimonials, and information on career services for graduates.

When you are ready to enroll in a program, simply complete the online enrollment form, or call our toll-free number to speak with an enrollment adviser.

2Begin Your Studies

On enrollment students receive a welcome email and letter with instructions on how to login into your course and access your course and tutorial support. You will not be required to purchase any further materials. Courses are divided into modules with assessments located at the end of these modules. Assessments (written assignments) are based on what you have been learning about. No exams are involved.

Study at your own pace

One of the many great benefits of our courses is their modular format creates an easier and more effective way for you to learn. And with no need to follow a fixed timetable, you get to study and submit assignment for each module at your own pace.

3Getting Help When You Need It

Your courses are designed so that you can study independently. However, if you have a question about anything in your course, just contact one of our industry based tutors. Your tutors are industry professionals who are ready to answer any questions about the course, assessments and industry for which you are training for.

4Get Assessed

At the end of modules you are asked to complete assignments. With no fixed assessment dates ICI students can submit their assessments at any time. This allows students to progress through the course at a pace that suits their needs. Assignments can be submitted via the student portal or email directly to the tutor.

Your assignments and projects will be graded on the following scale:
